BRANDHALL ARE WEST MIDLANDS CHAMPIONS   Brandhall Labour took the division one title after defeating Sedgley WMC 4-1. Geoff Williams and Jamie Brown put the new champions 2-0 up before Ash Sidaway pulled one back for Sedgley. There was no stopping Brandhall however as wins for Callum Downing and Alan Hooper secured the match and the title.   It was a superb season for Brandhall who only lost twice all season to win the title by four points.   Sedgley’s point was more than enough to stay up as Masters B suffered relegation to division two after losing 3-2 at Stafford Institute. Nick Griffiths took the opener for Masters but Stafford took control through Mark Billingsley and Lee Walker before a 54 break from Chris Ward made it 3-1 to Stafford. Stuart Humphries took the consolation frame for Masters.   Elsewhere in division one the breaks were flying in at Golden Cue as the home side faced Woodcross B. Steve Giles took the opener for Cue after knocking in an impressive 97 break, Michael Smith made it 2-0 before a 55 break from Simon Groves made it 3-0. Adrian Ojelay pulled one back for Woodcross but it looked like being 4-1 after Ron Smith opened the final frame with a 33 break but those were the only points he scored as Chris McGhee took the final frame to reduce the arrears to 3-2.   Jamie Brown and Daniel Ward secured the division one most wins crown as they both secured 27 wins this season.   It was not such a good night for another first division side in the Consolation Handicap Final as Ladywood Social suffered defeat at the hands of division five runners-up Goodrich B. The fifth division side who were receiving 180 points handicap got off to a superb start as Steve Heath shocked Jason Hickman, winning by 43 points. Ladywood fought back through Gary Ford and Rob Howen who won by 41 and 61 points respectively but a superb performance by Daniel Roberts for Goodrich restricted Secretaries Champion Chris Southall to a 14 point victory. In the final frame Bal Sembi had a mountain to climb to recover a deficit of 107 points and although he played exceptionally well, the experienced Steve Platt was able to see Goodrich home.   This week also saw an absolutely superb inter-town final between Wolverhampton and Stafford. Stafford, who were chasing their first title in 25 years got off to the perfect start as Mick Fox made a 39 break to take the opener. Chris Ward made it 2-0 by taking the next in an epic frame with Chris Jones, Ward was never behind in the frame looking solid throughout but unluckily went in-off when leading by 23 with 18 left on the table. Jones forced the respotted black which Ward eventually potted.   Stafford must have been confident at this stage with captain Rob Wharne up next but Neil Leighton played superbly well, knocking in a 37 break to make it 2-1 and Lee Haselum soon levelled the match after knocking in a 62 break to make it 2-2.   Rob Jones looked likely to put Wolverhampton 3-2 up as he knocked in a 37 break early on in the next frame but Lee Walker did not panic and overhauled Jones and eventually took the frame on the pink to put Stafford 3-2 up. Wolverhampton got off to a flying start in the next as Paul Dunn knocked in a 39 break but Pete Fabre fought back and had a blue to win the frame and match for Stafford. Unfortunately for Stafford the blue was jawed and Dunn cleared the table to force the decider.   In the decider it was nip and tuck all the way but Stafford’s Richard Spencer eventually potted the pink for victory only to see the white unluckily drop into the middle pocket. Colin Reade took the pink and after a short safety battle added the black to give Wolverhampton the 4-3 victory and their first inter-town title in ten years.   Adrian Ojelay and John Bayliss are the new Foursomes Champions after defeating the 2008 Champions Robbie James and Lee Payne 3-2 in a gruelling encounter.   In division four Albrighton were crowned champions after getting the win they needed to secure the title. Albrighton visited bottom side Landywood D and got off to the perfect start as Chris Brown and Paul Hurst put the away side 2-0 up. Andy Hickinbottom pulled one back for Landywood but the highlight was brief as Tony Baldwin and Richard Downing secured the match and the title for Albrighton.   It was a double celebration for Baldwin as he took the most wins title.   Golden Cue E needed two points for promotion to division three and took all six as they whitewashed Darlaston Cons through Dave Fagan, Murti Ram, Jim Woodhouse, Alan Moore and Chris Hill.   In division six the title race went right down to the wire as Codsall Cons and Golden Cue G were joint leaders going into the final game. Golden Cue got off to the perfect start against Penn Fields D as Alan Richards and Phil Richards took the opening frames, Paul Butcher pulled one back for Penn but Des Walker and Simon Vines made the scoreline 4-1.   Codsall also won but had a tougher evening against Fordhouses C, Fordhouses took the opener through Mel Brown but Codsall levelled matters through John Featherstone. Dan Finch again put Fordhouses 2-1 but Codsall again levelled matters through Alan Guest. Peter Hyland took the decider for Codsall to take the match 3-2 but Golden Cue took the title by one point.   Windsor B needed one point to secure promotion to division five and despite being defeated they secured the points they needed to secure promotion to go with the Challenge Cup in a memorable season. Tettenhall C visited Windsor and took the opening frames through Paul Ford and Des Sadler to cause a few butterflies for the home side. The butterflies got bigger as Joe Edgley took the next to make it 3-0 but Martin Russon got the important frame on the black to make it 1-3. Paul Sandland took the consolation frame for Windsor as they lost the match 2-3.   Paul Butcher secured the division six most wins crown.   In division five, St Johns needed one point to secure promotion and it duly arrived as they defeated a dogged Oaklands side 4-1. Kirk Butterton and Rich Hunt put the home side 2-0 up, Oaklands pulled one back through Mark Crutchley but Keith Myatt and Gary Richardson saw St Johns home.   The relegation battle in division two went down to the final week as four teams battled to avoid the two places available. Golden Cue B secured their survival after defeating already relegated Stafford Institute B 4-1. Peter Shelley took the opener for Stafford to give Cue an early fright but Hiten Patel knocked in breaks of 63 and 31 to inspire his team-mates who went on to secure the victory through Tony Kerr, Graham Cole (snr) and Clive Walker.   Shifnal B moved out of the relegation zone after a cracking 4-1 win at Goodyear. Nick Browne, Chris Morgan-Adams, Rob Wright and Angus Way put the away side 4-0 up before Kevin Saunders took the consolation frame for Goodyear.   These results put Bilston Town BC and Dartmouth Central down after both sides were defeated. Dartmouth lost 3-2 at Woodfield in a high quality match, Richard Scott and Simon Thomas put Woodfield 2-0 up after breaks of 32 and 46 respectively. Steve Simkin pulled one back for Dartmouth before Paul Piddock levelled the match after making a break of 35. Nigel Share took the decider for Woodfield.   Bilston Town BC were the unluckiest team however as Steve Spicer and Stewart Parton put them 2-0 up but their opponents, Forty Four Club, hit back to win 3-2, firstly Ian Jeavons hit a 35 break to pull one frame back before Bill Reece and John Evans won the match for Forty Four Club. If Bilston had won just one of the last three frames they would have stayed up.   Steve Bircher had an opportunity to gain the most wins title outright but Ian Goodall spoilt the party so Bircher had to settle for sharing it with the popular Malcolm Franklin who had a bye week. Simon Biddulph also had an opportunity to jointly hold the award but he lost to Andy Cambridge, who knocked in a 35 break.   In division three all promotion and relegation matters had been sorted but the most wins title was still up for grabs and Paul Shakespeare took it after defeating Tom Maddocks at Fordhouses CC.   The runner up in the most wins race, John Gair, knocked in the third highest break in the division – a 65 break as he fought Shakespeare all the way.   Division 1 Champions: Brandhall Labour Runners Up: Sedgley Ex-Services Relegated: Masters B, Palfrey Social, Bushbury Grid Most Wins: Jamie Brown, Daniel Ward (27) Highest Break: Elliot Bastable (135)   Division 2 Champions: Landywood B Promoted: Whitmore Reans Cons, Sedgley Ex-Services B Relegated: Bilston Town BC, Dartmouth Central, Stafford Institute B Most Wins: Malcolm Franklin, Steve Bircher (22) Highest Break: Hiten Patel (71)   Division 3 Champions: Sedgley WMC B Promoted: Goodrich, Smethwick Labour Relegated: Wednesbury Cons B, Jacks Bar B, Willenhall Liberal Most Wins: Paul Shakespeare (27) Highest Break: Eddy Payne (83)   Division 4 Champions: Albrighton RBL Promoted: Woodcross D, Golden Cue E Relegated: Essington WMC, Golden Cue F, Landywood D Most Wins: Tony Baldwin (26) Highest Break: Stewart James (75)   Division 5 Champions: Willenhall Liberal C Promoted: Goodrich B, St Johns Relegated: British Rail B, Wednesfield RBL B, Tettenhall B Most Wins: Gary Haynes (30) Highest Break: Gary Haynes (51)   Division 6 Champions: Golden Cue G Promoted: Codsall Cons, Windsor B Most Wins: Paul Butcher (28) Highest Break: Paul Butcher (43)
